What dreams.

I raced the moon further than I intended to go.
We both ran as fast as we could
Toward the horizon
Dodging clouds and rocks
Rivers and lakes and waterfalls of promise
A wink and a challenge and we were off
I knew she would win, but I ran just the same.
Out farther than I thought I could.
And when I stopped, and looked back
I suddenly couldn't see where I had come from.
All the water and stone I had passed was gone
In its place, a wide desert.
And so I sat there, and let the moon fly by me.
Until the sun came up, and swallowed us all in its light.
